Join Workforce Development Institute (WDI) for the opening reception of the exhibit “Female Vets Speak.”
The exhibit features photography by residents from the Female Guardian House, a transitional home for female veterans in Ballston Spa. Their voices and visions were born out of a class run through WDI’s unseenamerica NY State initiative, in which the artists attended photography and writing workshops and learned to document their lives after serving in active duty or other capacities in the military.
Through these workshops, co-sponsored by The Saratoga Rural Preservation Council and co-funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, the veterans produced works of written and visual art that speak of long dark journeys, homelessness and hope, struggles and personal strength. As they reflect upon being looked at but not seen, their powerful photographs and poetic prose offer lights of hope, both to the artists themselves and the country they fought for. This event is free and open to the public.
Hear from Ed Murphy, Executive Director of Workforce Development Institute, Vickie Kereszi, Art of Labor Manager, and participants, to learn the stories and process of this amazing project!
