Facing Change: #Occupy Filmfest

March 2, 2012 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm EST

Compelling shorts from struggling independent filmmakers, followed by a discussion of the Occupy movement and role of radical media.  Join regional filmmakers in a fascinating and provocative look at the role that independent media can play in struggle! Curated by Ira McKinley and Bhawin Suchack. who are making a documentary called “The Throwaways,” which aims to shed light on the struggles of people living on the margins and to challenge a system that oppresses them. McKinley says the films give a “visual history of what took place in the Occupy movement.” Suchak is a filmmaker, educator and digital media producer who works with emerging technologies as tools to promote expression, communication, and connection. He is also the founder and program director of Youth FX, a digital media program for inner-city teens based out of Grand Street Community Arts.
