My name is Grace Gong. I am a part of Alternative Spring Break. There are 12 of us here from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. We arrived at the Sanctuary for Independent Media this weekend. We are so excited about the projects we did this week. We helped set up for Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba concert. The concert was very exciting and people were really passionate about the performance. We took a lot of photos and video of the show. We also helped make food for them and make them comforable.

We also painted the walls, fixed the windows, and helped organize dvds, books and other things at the Sanctuary. We were so glad to help people here. We learned about Independent Media and the spirit that drives the community. Personally, I really like the sytle of Independent Media and I wish I could be a part of this for longer. We got to know the culture of Troy better, too.
From watching Uncle Sam’s movie to seeing the the waterfall in Cohoes… from experiencing the Malian band to rearanging the room – we watched, we learned, and we grew up.
