Feijoada is a delicious stew of beans.  In Brazil, feijoada (feijoada brasileira) is often considered the national dish.  The name comes from feijão, Portugese for "beans."

This workshop continues KitchenSanctuary's themes of cooking nutritious food on a budget for large groups of people.  The beans will be served later that day on Freedom Square, as the community gathers with artist Isaiah Zagar for the Mosaic Art Workshop!

Please let us know you will attend, by emailing: kitchen@mediasanctuary.org.

Watson received a Grammy nomination for his self-titled debut album, released in 2008. He has performed on six additional full-length albums, including three with his own band, Bijou Creole – members: D’Jalma Garnier (fiddle and guitar), Ryan Poullard (drums), Lance Boston (clarinet), and “Zydeco” Mike Chaisson (percussion).

"Herman's House" screening w/ filmmaker Angad Bhalla

Date & Time:
04/16/2013 - 7pm

Herman's House logoJoin us for a screening of Herman's House, an acclaimed documentary that explores the injustice of solitary confinement and the transformative power of art. There will be a full scale model of a solitary confinement cell on display.

The film tells the story of Herman Joshua Wallace, who has spent the past 40 years in solitary confinement at Louisiana's notorious Angola Prison Farm. At the urging of artist Jackie Sumell, Wallace, working by letter and occasionally phone, designs his own post-prison house. The film follows their unique creative partnership, as Sumell builds an exhibit based on Herman’s story, complete with plans for the house and a full-scale model of the cell. The story takes a turn when Sumell sets out to build a bricks-and-mortar structure for Herman and authorities decide to review his case.
