Barbara Smith on David Gilbert's "Love and Struggle"

Barbara Smith reads a selection from "Love and Struggle," during the event "Weather Underground Meets Occupy Wall Street" on March 3, 2012 at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, NY. David Gilbert's new book, "Love and Struggle: My Life in SDS, the Weather Underground, and Beyond," sparks a dialogue about what social justice movements can learn from each other. Currently serving a 75 year to life sentence in the New York State prison system, Gilbert chose a political path--an Eagle Scout turned member of the Weather Underground. In other segments, a panel of today's young activists will talk with '60s revolutionaries about their common struggles, grounded by critical exchange and self-reflection. Panelists include Naomi Jaffe, Barbara Smith, Jeff Jones, Dan Lyles, Laura Travison, Victorio Reyes and special guest Larry White, co-founder of The New Jim Crow Movement to End Mass Incarceration. www.mediasanctuary.org
