Eliza Gilkyson "Emerald Street"

The Sanctuary for Independent Media welcomed Austin, TX-based folk musician Eliza Gilkyson and activist Rob Jensen on November 16, 2008.

Gilkyson performed her songs, including some from her most recent album Beautiful World. Jensen offered his approach to a variety of topics such as economics and environmentalism, which he presents in his most recent book, All My Bones Shake: Seeking a Progressive Path to the Prophetic Voice.

The duo intertwined songs and speeches throughout the night to present a collection of beautiful music and radical discussion.

Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba "Ladon"

On March 24, 2010, rising Afropop star Bassekou Kouyate and his band, Ngoni Ba, stopped by The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, New York, for an incredible night of blues, rock, and West African musical fusion.Bassekou Kouyate plays lead ngoni.

On March 27, 2010, Taina Asili y La Banda Rebelde played a concert at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, New York, to celebrate the release of their new CD, "War Cry."

During this song, soul singer Ayana Del Valle and trapeze artist Leah Penniman join Taina Asili (vocals), Gaetano Vaccaro (guitar), Kiki Vassilakis (drums), Sean Muniz (bass), Saeed Abbas (percussion), and Alicia Ortiz (backup vocals).
