Troy Central Little League: The Comeback

The Troy Central Little League is a great success story in a neighborhood that sorely needs them. This short video, produced by Youth Media Sanctuary at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in North Troy, gets behind the scenes to tell that story! North Central Troy Meets Soul Fire Farm

In the summer of 2012, young people from the food desert of North Central Troy NY took a field trip to the hills of Rensselaer County to see the community-supported agriculture operation at Soul Fire Farm. The youths were part of Uptown Summer, a collaborative effort organized by Youth Media Sanctuary, Collard City Growers and Troy Bike Rescue with support from the Rensselaer County Summer Youth Employment Program. Created with special thanks to Branda Miller, this video was directed and produced by artist Yaminay Nasir Chaudhri at the Sanctuary for Independent Media. Her ongoing work on migration as a Pakistani immigrant living in America was interrupted by a bomb blast 1 km from her parents' home in Karachi while she was editing videos in Albany, New York. This video is the first in a series of portraits of life as a migrant in cities that she calls home.
