Addicted to Plastic: A Community Screening and Information Exchange

No ecosystem or segment of human activity has escaped the shrink-wrapped grasp of plastic. The film "Addicted to Plastic" probes what happens to all the plastic in water bottles, packaging, and hundreds of other everyday uses.

Representatives from local plastic-alternative groups Capital District Community Gardens, Ecovative Design, Ecolibrium, Troy Public Library and Sonrise Diaper Service gathered at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy NY on May 15, 2010 to view and discuss the film, share information and demonstrate plastic-reduction strategies.

A story of Denise Ramos and Nijear Howard

Denise Ramos was 14 years old when she had her son Nijear, and her life changed rapidly and dramatically in the next 8 years. In this short documentary, she reflects on her struggle trying to be a teenager in school and a mother when out of school, how she learned to be a parent on her own, and what she would tell other teenagers in her situation.

Created by Denise Ramos, Ellie Markovitch, Cindy Khoo, Andrew Lynn, Nijear Howard, and Branda Miller. A Youth Media Sanctuary project with NY Media Alliance and the Missing Link Street Ministry. First shown at the NY Shout Out Youth Media Film Festival, June 5, 2010.

Protesting Reaper Drones in Syracuse

On November 15, 2009 the Syracuse Peace Council organized a demonstration against the deployment of Reaper drones on a nearby air force base. Members of Hudson Mohawk Indymedia were there to document, interviewing Kathy Kelly, Dan Berrigan, organizers and protesters about the drones and the future of the antiwar movement.
