Art In Action

This mural was created from 2009 to 2011, with the understanding that our lives are impacted by the condition of the cities where we live; that creativity is a fabulous teacher; and that art opens doors. Sean Hemmerle at the Sanctuary

Artist talk about "Media Nodes" by photographer Sean Hemmerle recorded in the Underground Gallery at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, NY on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Award-winning photographer Sean Hemmerle, in collaboration with the Columbia Journalism Review, took his camera into newsrooms around the country. "People throw around this word all the time, mostly disparagingly: 'oh, the media,' and 'media spin," he says. "That made me think: who is the media? And what about the media? I wanted to put a face on these media nodes, the places where news is 'made.'" www.seanhemmerle.com www.mediasanctuary.org

This video is the first in a series of portraits of life as a migrant in cities that she calls home.
